Each primary DiSC® Personality style has three possible combination styles depicted on the circular DiSC® Model.

This is the first of 4 blog posts to help you understand the three style combinations  within The Dominant DiSC® Personality Style.

The DiSC® Workplace Priorities Map shows us that the Dominant Styles prioritize RESULTS – CHALLENGE and ACTION.

While all three Dominant combinations place priority on RESULTS, CHALLENGE, and ACTION, each of the three Dominant Combination Styles prioritize those qualities in a slightly different way, depending on the placement of a person’s dot within the D quadrant.

So how are the three Dominant combination styles alike and different?  Well, all Dominant Styles are:  Fast paced, outspoken, questioning and skeptical… but in addition…

The Pure D Styles prioritize RESULTS – ACTION and CHALLENGE:

They are results oriented and they’re motivated to win.  A good challenge for them is like meat to a lion.  They are quick to act, and tend to be decisive.  They want control, and can be rather blunt with people.

When coaching the Pure D Style, encourage them to learn patience with other styles and to develop and empathy for others.

The Di Style prioritizes ACTION – RESULTS and ENTHUSIASM:

To demonstrate their priorities, Di’s are quick to act and enthusiastic.  Their leaning toward the “I” style makes them the most charming and energetic of the Dominant Styles.

When coaching a Di style, encourage them to stay focused and keep an eye on the details.

The DC Style prioritizes CHALLENGE – RESULTS and ACCURACY:

To meet their challenge priority, DC Styles like to keep their options open and explore best practices for the sake of ACCURACY.  They tend to overwhelm others with their questions, and can be critical and judgmental of self and others.

When coaching a DC Style, encourage them to be more understanding and considerate of the feelings of others.

Overall, other styles tend to perceive the D styles to be overly aggressive.  When stressed they can appear to be manipulative and overpowering.
